Shana Wolf and Cecilia Smith are stay-at-home moms with a mission. They founded and manage Off the Vine, a delivery business bringing boxes of freshly picked organic produce to homes and offices. The idea stemmed from a conversation with a farmer who lamented that although he picks his produce at peak, by the time it reaches the table, it may be past its prime. Shana Wolf remembers thinking, “What if we could bring all these roadside stands straight to people’s doorsteps and minimize handling time?”
Tom Eichelberger and his wife appreciate the concept of home delivery, “We wanted to eat more organic produce, but trekking across town took time and we’re a busy family.” Off the Vine boxes are delivered on a weekly or bi-monthly basis and contain a variety of in-season produce that encourages trying new foods and expanding one’s nutritional intake. Eichelberger’s family enjoys the element of surprise with the boxes, and has fun eating foods that otherwise would not have been a part of their diet. The carefully packed boxes also include mouth-watering recipes and helpful tips.
