Field of Greens Festival Promotes Local Organic Farmers
Trace your organic roots at the second annual Georgia Organics Field of Greens Festival! This fun-filled family friendly day includes cooking demos and samples from top Atlanta organic chefs, live music from local bands, farm animals and an exploration of how organic farms work to provide us with fresh clean produce. The Field of Greens Festival is a relaxing day in the country and a chance to connect with health and wellness resources of all kind. Set against the beautiful backdrop of Whippoorwill Hollow Organic Farm in Walnut Grove, this one of a kind event raises money for local organic farmers while educating and entertaining people of all ages.
Festival co-founder Tom Maicon, publisher of Atlanta Cuisine, created the event with Pithya Kongthavorn of L’Thai Restaurant, “…to educate [the public] about organic food and farming and entice more consumers and farmers to jump in and go organic. Many farmers were hindered in the past because of a lack of resources. This festival does a lot toward helping those challenges. We hope everyone will come and enjoy the organic environment, the fresh clean air, the children running around chasing farm animals, the great cooking, and meeting incredible farmers.”
Chefs include Ann Quatrano (Bacchanalia, Floataway Café, Quinones), Michael Touhy (Woodfire Grill), Ron Eyester (Food 101), Scott Peacock (Watershed) and many more. Local bands “The Border Collies,” “Blue Flashing Light,” “Carla Lefever and the Rays,” “The Nightshades,” “Loose Cannon” and several others will be performing throughout the day.
Cost for advance tickets is $10 for adults, $15 day of; children 12 and under are free. Ticket prices include educational sessions, entertainment and chef tastings. The Festival will be held Saturday, October 6th from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. at Whippoorwill Hollow Organic Farm, 3905 Highway 138, Covington, GA 30014.
